Immigrated to Los Angeles from Azerbaijan as a child. After studying Producing for Independent Media at NYU Julie worked in film development/production
in New York City, in addition to making experimental video and VJ-ing. She became a video activist with Indymedia, a worldwide independent journalism
network. In 2004, upon moving to Vietnam, Julie co-founded Migrant Media Arts - documenting and supporting emerging cultures in SE Asia. Projects
include "Sugar Street", a six month long cafe and artist convergence space, and "The River Goddess", a documentary about Vietnam emerging into the
global marketplace while coming to terms with its own heritage. Her continuous documentation of the emerging art scene in Vietnam culminates now in
a project on the same subject in collaboration with Nico Mesterharm (Meta House).
