Looking at historical tragedies- from the Hitler Youth to the child soldiers of the Congo- children are always the first victims of human atrocities. Children are the least educated- and therefore the easiest to manipulate. Painting their bodies very simply, almost like hand puppets, emphasizes the complete control over them. I used pictures from Toul Sleng to create portraits with aspects of caricature.

Born in France in 1981 to a French mother and a Cambodian father, Denis moved to Cambodia 2006 to discover his Cambodian heritage. Educated at the Ecole Superieure d’Art de Marseille, Denis uses his artwork to explore his surroundings and to develop a greater understanding of Cambodian culture.
