SOLD AT THE AGE OF 14: CAMBODIAN MAIDS IN MALAYSIA
7PM: In October 201 Cambodia has banned citizens from going to work in Malaysia as maids, following a series of horrific reports of beatings and rapes. This follows a similar ban imposed by Indonesia on its citizens from taking new jobs as domestic workers in Malaysia, where maids are common in middle class households, thanks in part to a large migrant labour pool. The Malaysian TV feature YOUNG MAIDS FOR SALE (ntv7, 60 mins, English subs) stems from the experience of a 14-year-old Khmer girl who has now fortunately been able to return to her home and school in Prey Veng. SOLD OUT (20 mins) portrays a young Khmer woman, who was sold to a Malaysian brothel.
