KHMER ROUGE LEGACY: CHHIM SOTHY'S ART EXHIBIT AND FILM
6PM: During the Khmer Rouge regime most artists and intellectuals were killed. For his newest exhibition FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT Cambodian painter Chhim Sothy (born 1969) is focusing to the trauma that he experienced during his childhood. Many of his relatives were killed. After liberation he studied at the Royal University of Fine Arts, where he learned traditional Khmer painting. Free Entrance. 8PM: Deacon of Death (70 mins, 2005, Khmer, English subs) by Jan van den Berg introduces Sok Chea, a victim of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia in the 70s, as she confronts Karoby, the man she remembers killing her family and others in their village when she was a child.
