6PM: “MONK LIFE” PHOTO EXHIBITION – Theravada Buddhism is the state religion of Cambodia, which has had been presented since at least the 5th century. Nowadays, Phnom Penh’s Areyaksat pagoda is home and school to over 40 novice Buddhist monks. This exhibition by Dutch photographer Michael Klinkhamer provides intimate insights into Buddhist temple life. 8PM: BUDDHISM DOCUS - THE CROSS AND THE BODDHI TREE (2001, 46 min) portrays the extraordinary spiritual journey of Father François Ponchaud, who wrote the book that alerted the world to the terrible nature of the Pol Pot regime. Also screening: Sao Sopheak’s THE QUIET MOVEMENT about Buddhist nuns in Cambodia.
